I'm not sure how many of you are also crafters (which I just found out is totally different than a vendor), but if you are... you have to love and hate this season. Now, I have only done one fair and it was an art fair in June this year, sold a total of $15 (so sad since I paid $45 entrance fee).
It was a definite learning experience to say the least. I shared a booth with a good friend, which was great, especially since this was my first one. The booth next to us was the hard part, he had exceptional work which put my handmade cards a bit to shame. Thank God there was a Dollar Store on the strip where the fair was, my girlfriend, literally ran to it and bought some shower curtains to block the view. People would casually walk by glance at our stuff and with super vision, see right through two cards to his hand carved wooden teddy bear rocking chair. I just kept telling myself, I would dart past a card to the cute chair also. So needless to say the blue shower curtain was a MUST, and also not to helpful in the end.
So as for the hate part of craft fair season. I am currently preparing myself for the craft fair coming up at St. Andrew's (10 S. Lake Street, Mundelein, Illinois) on Saturday the 15th. I recently went to a local antique shop and made purchases to help make my set up look more "vintagey." I figure if rocking chairs is what draws attention than I need two in different sizes! I attempted to go back for more display ideas, when my poor lil' 3 year old son got some bug. He threw up all over in the car ride there and has been sick for a week, which makes getting more things done nearly impossible, but I just cut out some dusting this week. When I have the time during his sick escapades, I am a hermit in my crafting cave, busily at work and popping out necklaces and cards like I was going to have a major corporation soon. After all of that I think to myself, what if I get that same bug, better get ready now and I set up a demo table in my living room to see what I actually need to pack up, if I need to make more, until the fair in-oh me, oh my-4 days!!! And in these 4 days, I have also scheduled myself to work Friday night and Wednesday morning since I had to cancel work last week since my son was ill. But I have also not been feeling to hot and pushing through it to get things done and I will not make it Saturday, if I keep this up.
I do however love the craft fair season, because I admire other peoples work and find plenty of gifts for friends and family. My fellow crafters amaze me with their poise and calmness at the event with beautiful displays. I of course spend more than I make, but that's okay since I love handmade goods and appreciate the hard work that goes into these items. So here's to you crafters and cheers to the season of us!!!

Yippee!!! Fall is here
I don't know about the rest of you, but this is the greatest season. Although my sinuses are at an all time high, due to allergies, I am giddy just because it is fall. Fall reminds of the beginning of the school year when I was a kid and nothing was ever wrong at the beginning. I'd wait for the bus on the corner in the rain or just dark and I couldn't wait to see my friends before class would start. Or maybe for the more recent changes in life it's because I can wear my mom get-up that I enjoy so much of large sweatshirts and jeans (or yoga pants when I don't practice yoga). The list can go on forever. I woke up this morning pouring my hot coffee and thinking it was mulled cider (what a disappointment I may add when you expect a warm cider and get the bitter coffee taste that is there only to wake you up, yuck!)
As I was enjoying my pretend cider, I was thinking I needed to get out my fall decorations. I go downstairs and walk past my work station. Uh-oh, I haven't updated my site, so that comes first, of course. So after that done, the house will be in it's fall look! I just love the different color leaves that are occurring the reds, greens, yellows and even the browns. Now is bonfire time and snuggling under blankets, because it's not cold enough to turn the heat on and not hot enough to have the air on. Soups, chili, casseroles and pies.....oh the comfort foods. How can anyone not love this season? Really, it just gets you in a happy, warm, cozy mood. How about you are you the type to love this season? Are you getting the house ready for fall? Ready for your corn mazes, pumpkin picking, and leaf raking?
Tell me what you think...am I crazy or are you right there with me?
(Anyway back to crafting for me....yeah more things I love to do in fall!)

Blog hop
I know I said I wouldn't post for awhile but couldn't resist, this is a blog hop that I join through a wonderful site called mama-press.com. I am new to this blog thing of course so I hope I am doing it right. YEAH!
Creative Work Area & Inspiration
Hello again. So today I thought I would share with you what my work space looks like and my inspirations. You see I have always loved to create things, and of course now my little work space grows bigger and bigger, what was once was a man cave/bar area has slowly turned into my workout and craft area, both great releases for me.
You can see from the far view how big it is, but that's just a teaser, since I also have a cabinet on the other side of the room, filled with completed items for resale and packaging supplies and craft fair items, and blah blah blah. Here is where the actual work takes place. On the right is a big burlap board (a project I was working on, I found the idea in Paper Crafts Magazine for a countdown calender to holidays, super cute, however getting off track.) On this burlap I have some inspiration, a pendant I bought on Etsy that says "Risk." Simply stated, but says so much. One has to take risk in order to achieve anything, no matter how hard or how long the process can take. So when I struggle with ideas or that fact that nothing is selling I remember I took this risk and that is truly what it is and I am determined that this will be a great "Risk" that will turn out to be positive.
The other thing "hanging in" on there is a card. My husband John, so sweet and thoughtful, made this card for me for our anniversary. It too is simple, but I LOVE it. He went into my things at some point and dabbled with making this card with his own two hands. After opening the card and reading it, he tells me that he never knew that what I did was that hard, and this made my day. So when I need to know that what I am working on is worth it, I remember what he told me and that this is not something everyone can do. What I make is special, unique and beautiful!
It may be a cluttered area, but everything I need is within reach and I am surrounded by things that make me happy in there. I love the Chicago Bears (as if you can't tell in this picture) and of course, my family. Centered is a scrapbook page I made of Chicago Bears, my son and husband. Underneath that is another lil piece my mother gave me. It's a ironic piece, because she thought I could use it for displaying items at craft fairs, which I do, but when no fairs are occurring I use it to hold my scrapping needs. The irony is that it is a spice rack and crafting is one of my spices of life, thanks ma! Also a weird thing on my table is a cockatoo. This was my Aunt Bobbi's, who passed recently. She loved her birds, not sure why, maybe because of the freedom they had to go where they wanted, maybe it was their beauty, or it could be that they were intelligent, anyway you look at it, I loved, my aunt and her love for birds and I like to believe she adored them for all those reasons and she and that cockatoo give me strength to continue with my goals. Life is too short, love what you enjoy and enjoy what you do.
Well I think I will stop for now, I have talked your ear off too long. I will post again later, maybe not for a few days. Look forward to hearing from you and if you have questions, please ask!

So weird, this is new to me, so forgive me if I have random thoughts, since I'm already confused. I am starting this blog to help my teeny tiny business. I make ephemera gifts and sell vintage cameras. For those of you who don't know, "ephemera" in the simplest of terms means vintage looking, but not vintage in age. I make mostly cards, starting dabbling with jewelry, which really hasn't seen that much attention. My sister was the only one to give me a request for a necklace.
I am currently working on card sets for Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Since I signed up for a craft fair on the 16th of October, I figured I should have some things that reflect what's coming up. If any of you are interested in seeing some of these things in person the Craft Fair is at St. Andrew Lutheran Church at 10 S Lake St Mundelein, IL. I will keep you posted on some others I have been looking at for the fall to join. Hope you enjoy this site and don't forget to check out my online shop at vintagevanessasgifts.etsy.com
Thanks
Hey check this out, first view here an my most recent project, still in the works of course!
